• Added a warning message when no Counterize plugins are activated
• Set all the plugins to the version of Counterize because a WordPress bug nag users to update the plugins and report a wrong version information.

I uploaded the new version of Counterize (3.1.0) into the WordPress repository so you will be able to upgrade.

Update 1: There was a (stupid) error in the file “counterize_install.php” for early updaters, I am sorry for that. You can grab the new file in the ZIP on the WordPress plugin repository, or on my website in the download section, or you can manually replace “counterize_countries()” by “counterize_countryTable()” in the file “counterize_install.php”.

Update 2: I have a slow Internet connection, but I will try my best to address ASAP the various issues that Counterize users may have during those 10 days.

Version 3.1.0 of Counterize is a first step of the modernization of the plugin. So far, here are the release notes since version 3.0.33:

• Counterize has been splitted into several plugins, so that you can enable/disable what you want, and also create your own plugin easily.
• Outlinks and exit pages tracking
• Added a [counterize] shortcode
• Added email reports
• Added a Counterize button in the Visual editor to easily insert the [counterize] shortcode
• Added possibility to use the wildcard characters % and _ in the filters of the History page
• Added the LIKE and NOT LIKE filters on the History page
• Added a debug check-box to see the generated SQL query in the History page
• Added a date filter in the History page
• Added help sections using the new WP_Screen API
• Vertical diagrams bars will reflect the actual percentage better and use the available space in their cells
• Fixed the counterize_current_post_hits() function, with many thanks to Subhash and terrah
• Added a lot of actions and filters that you can hook into
• Improved the required capability dropdown list-item and added roles inside (roles are easier to understand than capabilities…)
• Now use pure CSS to display the diagram bars, no more images, for faster loading time and less server requests
• Counterize will load the file user_botlist.txt if it exists. Users can create this file and put their bots inside, so that it is not overwritten after an update
• Corrected a bug in the Counterize Javascript that made switching between Visual and HTML tab impossible in editor, and possibly many others problems
• Updated IP to Country database
• Optimization of the counterize_delete_bots() and counterize_delete_broken_entries() functions
• Added some indexes to speed up things, especially on counterize_referers.keywordID during execution of the function counterize_delete_broken_entries()
• Added the following countries: Ascension Island, Åland Islands, Saint Barthélemy, “Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba”, Bouvet Island, Clipperton Island, Curaçao, Chrismas Island, Diego Garcia, Ceuta and Melilla, Western Sahara, Guernsey, Heard Island and McDonald Islands, Canary Islands, Isle of Man, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Saint Martin (French part), Montserrat, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Pitcairn, “Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha”, Svalbard and Jan Mayen, South Sudan, Sint Maarten (Dutch part), Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands, East Timor, United States Minor Outlying Islands, Wallis and Futuna, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Zaire

If you installed Windows Vista, Windows Seven or newer, you probably already noticed that Microsoft removed the blinking icon which provided informations about the network interfaces traffic and connectivity in the notification area. The new icon does not give you any information about incoming and outgoing traffic activity, and now only give you the choice to open the Network and Sharing Center and to resolve connectivity problems, no direct access to the network interfaces of your computer is provided anymore. This is a notable regression in functionality, if you come from the 2000/XP world.

GabNetStats is a small utility that adds the blinking network icon back in the notification area of your Windows Vista or Windows Seven operating system. It looks like exactly the same as the XP icon and is blinking when some traffic activity occurs. Here is a more complete features list of GabNetStats :

• Configurable blinking icon for a quick overview of network traffic activity

• Direct access to the network interface controllers (NIC) and to the Network Connections window, no need to pass through the Network and Sharing Center anymore

GabSoftware proudly present its captcha plugin for the comment section of WordPress based blogs, Gab Captcha.

Gab Captcha in action

Based on the simple but efficient Amcaptcha from Alexey Moskovsky (with great thanks), Gab Captcha improved the security and customization of the plugin, but not only. The interface has been improved and the code has been cleaned up. Valid XHTML should be produced as well now. It is now possible to display 3 questions and to specify whether each checkbox should be checked or not by humans, thus improving security against spam bots. The three questions can be modified as well, as it was possible to do it on Amcaptcha.

Available settings for Gab Captcha

The installation is quite straitforward : you only need to copy the file gabcaptcha.php in your wp-content/plugins directory of your WordPress blog and to activate it in the administration interface of your blog. You can eventually change the settings of the plugin (recommended).

To uninstall Gab Captcha, simple deactivate the plugin then remove gabcaptcha.php from your plugins directory.

With Gab Captcha, spam should now be a thing of the past !
